months from the date of entry.
We recommend carring it with you AT ALL TIMES. Yyou will need it every
time you check in a new hotel and it can be checked by traffic police.
If you want to stay more than 3 month in Morocco, it is possible to apply
for an extension or to ask for "la carte de resident" (Green
card). It is very difficult to get this card!! We recommend leaving Morocco
for a few-days, then re-entering. This is not guaranteed, as sometimes
permission to re-enter in not granted. |

and occasional donkey carts !
From Southern Spain, you can take the ferry from Algesiras

Many compagnies have ferries crossing from Algesiras (or Tarifa) to Tangier

a car and 130 € for a van.

The Moroccan check point is just outside the city. Ceuta is a duty free
zone so fill up the tank before entering Morocco.

| MOROCCO - Getting around |
| |
| The infrastructure of Morocco makes for pretty easy travel!
Getting around offers no real problems, other than deciding your means
of transportation. |
| |
| Trains: |
( see www.oncf.ma
)connect to major cities and to many smaller, more out of the way places.
The train system may work well, but you won't need to go further south
of Marrakech by rail.
Otherwise, travelling is best done with a combination of buses
and shared taxis (aka Grand Taxi), with shared taxis
a bit more expensive than buses. Both have a tendency of getting pretty
crowded, but run almost 24 hours a day, and can take you to just about
any place in Morocco, big or small. |
| |
| Car: |
The most rewarding way of travelling in Morocco, especially
in the south, is by car or motorcycle. You won't meet
all the people you meet in buses and trains, but you can stop wherever
you want. You could explore the manyexotic villages in south, and oasises
along the roads where buses stop for only a couple of minutes, and the
many small roads, where ordinary transportation is rare.
However, renting a car in Morocco is expensive, starting at 2500 dh for
a Renault 4 (little car) for a week (but with free km and insurance included).
|
| |
| Accomodation: |
Finding a place to stay for the night,
or somewhere to eat, is easy all over Morocco. And there
are surprisingly many places offering opportunities for both budgeteers
and people with more money to spend.
The cost is often reflecting the quality, even if places like Casablanca,
Marrakech, and Agadir often are more expensive than smaller, more isolated
spots. Budgeteers can expect to pay from 40 dh and up for an average quality
hotel beds. Eating can be done at a low 20- 30 dh for a three course meal.
But if you can afford it, luxury is available at European prices. |
